What is Moz Pro?

Formerly SEOMoz, Moz is one of the leading brands not just in SEO software but also in SEO learning and training.

Their SEO blog is a must-read for everyone interested in the changing world of SEO, and the Moz Beginner's Guide To SEO has probably been read by everyone when they were first introduced to SEO and online marketing.

In recent years Moz has leveraged its enviable brand position and SEO expertise to develop one of the most feature-rich and essential premium SEO tools on the market - Moz Pro.

What does Moz Pro do?

Moz Pro is an all-in-one suite of SEO tools designed to offer everything you need to manage and develop your campaigns.

Its tool set includes:

  • Keyword research
  • Backlink analysis and research
  • SEO audit and crawl
  • Rank tracking

Keyword research

Moz's Keyword Explorer tool is one of the most complete keyword research tools on the market, helping you identify and target the best keywords quickly and easily.

It uses an array of different metrics to help you analyse keywords and lets you organise target keywords into lists for better workflow management.

Backlink analysis and research

Moz's Open Site Explorer (OSE) used to be one of the top link crawling and analysis tools around, competing with the likes of Ahrefs and Majestic. Now it has been embedded into Moz Pro, the emphasis has been on perfecting the data rather than pushing for a bigger link index.

Consequently, you will find more data in other link building tools, but OSE is still a valuable addition to the Moz Pro toolset.

A useful recent addition to the data is the Spam Score, which helps you identify any risky links in your link profile to disavow.

SEO audit and crawl

If you're going to sell yourself as an industry-leading all-in-one SEO tool, then you need a good crawling and auditing tool. In this respect, Moz Pro does not disappoint.

The Site Crawl tool highlights various important issues on your site, from duplicate content and soft 404s to status code and crawling errors.

Rank tracking

The standard package of Moz Pro allows you to track a total of 300 keywords and delivers weekly ranking position updates. The medium package tracks 750, the large tracks 1,900 and the premium package tracks 7,500.

Ranking positions can be tracked across all the major search engines and geographic variations, e.g. google.co.uk/de/es/fr etc.

Each week you get a headline figure of how rankings have changed and a detailed review of which ones have gone up or down and by how much.

Moz Pro doesn't do anything exciting with its rank tracking offering, but it does the basics well - which is all you need.

How much does Moz Pro cost?

The pricing structure for Moz is relatively straightforward compared to some other tools.

The basic entry-level package costs $99 per month, which gives you space for five campaigns and will crawl 100,000 pages per week.

The data allowances (amount of campaigns, keywords tracked, pages crawled etc.) go up in increments with each of the other packages:

  • Medium - $179 per month
  • Large - $299 per month
  • Premium - $599 per month

Unless you're running a large agency with lots of clients, the Medium package should be enough (10 campaigns, 750 ranking positions, 500,000 pages crawled/week).
